Substance Sold As: Cocaine
Visual Description: White powder
Over the weekend, four different samples of white powders sold as cocaine were tested on the FTIR machine at the Mobile Overdose Prevention Site (MOPS).
Only two of the four samples contained actual cocaine (each less than 10%). The samples with cocaine also contained synthetic opioids, making them more risky for people who have no opioid tolerance.
Substance 1: No cocaine found, only table salt (48%) and toxic filler
Substance 2: 8% cocaine found, synthetic opioid (25%) and the rest toxic filler
Substance 3: 6% cocaine found, plus an antibiotic, a breast-cancer drug, an anticonvulsant and a potent synthetic opioid
Substance 4: No cocaine found, only BZP (an MDMA-like stimulant with adverse effects like psychosis, kidney toxicity and seizure) and toxic filler
