There have been increased presentations of levamisole toxicity at Thompson General Hospital.
Levamisole a veterinary de-worming medication that is often used as a cutting agent in COCAINE, because it is a white powder that mimics and prolongs cocaine’s effects.
Levamisole toxicity presents with flu-like symptoms and can include:
- Dangerous drop in white blood cell counts that makes the body vulnerable to severe infections.
- Vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation) that can lead to organ failure and skin lesions, especially on the ears, nose and face.
