Location: Winnipeg
Substance Sold As: Down
Visual Description: Blue-green chunk
Blue-green chunk DOWN caused multiple overdoses in the Main & Rupert area on Sunday night/early Monday morning. All occurred after smoking from a pipe and required >4 doses of naloxone as well as CPR and rescue breaths.
The substance tested positive on strips for fentanyl, benzodiazepines and medetomidine.
Medetomidine is a sedative/tranquilizer only approved for use in animals. Combining opioids like fentanyl with sedatives like benzodiazepines and medetomidine increases the risk of complex overdose, because naloxone does not work on sedatives.
