Drug Alert: WINNIPEG — Wednesday, December 21, 2022

WINNIPEG DRUG ALERT - WED. DECEMBER 21, 2022.

Drug with an unknown name contains 30-35% fentanyl. It looks like an orange pebble and is suspected to contain benzodiazepine (etizolam).

A drug that looks like an orange pebble in Winnipeg was tested in Vancouver using a FTiR spectrometer. This showed that it contains a 30-35% fentanyl, a higher percentage than they usually find in drugs in Vancouver. It is suspected to also contain etizolam, a benzodiazepine that does not show up on test strips. Benzodiazepines are sedatives that are not opioids and so they do NOT respond to naloxone. Therefore, this orange pebble drug presents a higher risk of a complex overdose.
